Schools will be closed if haze worsen

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Schools will be closed if the Air Pollutant Index in their respective areas worsen, says Natural Resources and Environment minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the ministry was providing information to the Health Ministry to enable the latter to alert the public.

"If the situation worsen with API above 200, the Health Ministry will issue a directive for school closure," he said.

To date, he said 395 hotspots had been identified in Sumatera and another 82 in Riau, Indonesia.

"The haze situation in Peninsular Malaysia will worsen if the winds blow to the West Coast of Malaysia," he said.
