MCA to host conference on the economy

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will host a one-day conference on Sept 5 to map out strategic directions for the Malaysian economy.

Party president Datuk Seri Dr Liow Ting Lai said the conference was part of MCA's efforts in transforming and supporting the national economy.

"It will also look at specific short to long term solutions for local industries such as the furniture industry," he said, adding that the proposals would be presented during the party's general assembly at the end of the year.

The proposals would then be fine tuned and presented to the cabinet thereafter.

Liow said the conference was to find ways to overcome challenges faced by the domestic and global economy.

"What is crucial is that we must have a clear and strategic economic direction. This will enable us to be competitive in different fields and explore new opportunities."

The bilingual (English-Mandarin) conference will be open to the public and will feature talks by various industry practitioners on the current economic outlook as well as specific short, mid and long-term solutions for 10 focus areas.

They are modern agriculture, tourism, logistics, wood-based industries, technical and vocational education and training, neo-urbanisation, small traders, the belt and road initiative, information technology and financing.
