Development to go hand in hand with racial unity, says Rahman Abbas

GEORGE TOWN: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas has urged the development process in Penang to go hand in hand with racial unity.

Rahman said Penang must adopt its own mould and identity to sustain the unity amidst development and progress.

"Human capital must coincide with the state's development because without a solid unity to back it up the progress in the state will be negatively affected," he said.

Rahman was addressing 162 award recipients in a speech while attending an investiture ceremony at the Dewan Sri Pinang in conjunction with his 77th birthday today.

Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang heads the honours' list alongside a total of 1,275 recipients.

Ambrin will be conferred the Darjah Panglima Pengakuan Negeri (D.P.P.N.) which carries a title of Datuk Seri with five others.

The four-day conferment ceremony starts today, continues next Monday, Tuesday and ends on Thursday.
