Two men in parang hacking video charged with attempted murder

SEREMBAN: Two men, whose video of them using parang to mercilessly hack a woman had gone viral, were charged with attempted murder today.

K.Saravanan, 26 - who was the husband of the woman in the video - and his friend Ahmad Mohd Latif, 23, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Judge Kamarudin Kamsun at the Seremban Sessions Court.

According to the charge, the duo and another man had on Oct 1 attacked the victim, D. Megala, 24, using parang outside a row of terrace houses in Taman PD Utama.

The duo were charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. If convicted, they face a prison term of up to 20 years.

The judge fixed Nov 13 for re-mention.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Syamimi Farhana Muhammad A Aziz prosecuted, while the duo were unrepresented.

The violent video clip showed several men, clad in face masks, using parang to attack the woman in full view of the public. The video, captured by an onlooker, went viral after it was shared by social media users on Facebook.

A subsequent video showed the suspects being nabbed by police at a toll plaza.

The victim is now being treated at the Port Dickson Hospital for multiple injuries.
