Amanah not keen on three-way fights with Pas

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Amanah Negara's leaders appear to be still at odds on whether to contest in three-cornered fights involving Pas in next general election.

While admitting that Amanah would not relinquish the seats its representatives won under Pas during the 13th General Election, party secretary-general Mohd Anuar Tahir said it would be best to avoid contesting against their former colleagues.

However on Oct 11, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu reportedly expressed his readiness to lock horns with Pas.

Anuar at a press conference today, said Amanah would prefer to discuss with Pas on the matter.

"Both Amanah and Pas are opposition parties. Hence, the outcome of a three-cornered fight between Pas, Amanah and Barisan Nasional will not be favourable to us.

"It should be straight fights (between opposition and BN) all the way," said Anuar.

At the same time, Anuar said it was also impossible for elected representatives who had quit Pas to join Amanah, to let go of their seats.

"You must remember that we won under (now-defunct) Pakatan Rakyat. We should not betray the trust of voters who supported the pact."
