Unemployed man told to get job by magistrate

KUALA LUMPUR: Unemployed Mohd Fauzi Abdul Rahim learnt a good lesson at the magistrate's court today when he was told that getting a job is better than stealing to fund a bus ticket home.

Fauzi, 33, who pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing haircare products and baby soap, was advised by magistrate Saifulakmal Said that he should not resort to theft if he wanted to purchase a bus ticket home, and instead should get himself a job.

Fauzi committed the theft at Mydin Sinar Kota at Jalan Silang here, around 7.15pm on Oct 10.

Earlier in his pleading for leniency, the unmarried Fauzi said he stole the items, worth RM36.48, to sell it to get some money for the bus ticket to his hometown in Kuantan, Pahang.

He also told the court that he regretted his action and had a previous drug conviction.

The court sentenced Fauzi to three weeks jail, which is to be served from the date of arrest on Oct 10.
