Workshop aims to make kindergarten goers financially savvy

KUALA LUMPUR: Being financially savvy from a young age is the objective of the ‘My First Ringgit Workshop’ organised by the Education and Research Association for Consumers Malaysia (ERA Consumers).

Affiliated with the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Association, the programme was designed for pre-schoolers on the fundamentals of financial knowledge.

"This is the fourth year for this programme where we would go to 40 chosen kindergartens nationwide to teach the basic things about money, the differences between needs and wants, saving and sharing (donating).

"The enrichment centre today is the 25th centre opened this year. The output of this workshop is good financial behaviour development from young age," said its spokesperson, Ahmad Zarif Akmal Nor Azman at the workshop in Smart Reader Worldwide Sdn Bhd, today.

Smart Reader Centre Management and Growth manager, Thamayanthi G. Appu said 45 students in attendence today were from Smart Reader centres nationwide.

"We want to be more aware of the importance and value of money.

"Our centres use the Smart Reader creative teaching methodology. Not only we teach in classes but we have workshops like this to keep it lively for the students," she said.
