KUALA LUMPUR: The government has no plans to revive the Internal Security Act (ISA) 1961.
This was because the existing laws in place are adequate to curb serious crimes in the country, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri in response to a question in Parliament this morning.
Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad (BN-Lipis) had asked whether the government would reinstate the ISA as a mean of curbing criminal activities as the law had proven effective in tackling serious crime in the country.
Since dismantling the ISA, the government had introduced the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, better known as Sosma in 2012.
The Act provides for special measures relating to security offences for the purpose of maintaining public order and security.
