Foreign fishing vessel intercepted in Pangkor

LUMUT: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has intercepted a foreign fishing vessel and arrested six Indonesians on board after they allegedly encroached into Pulau Pangkor waters on Tuesday.

The skipper and five crew members were believed to have caught fish illegally in Malaysian waters some 45 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Pangkor.

MMEA Maritime Area 3 Lumut enforcement chief Captain Zulinda Ramly said its ‘KM Nyalau’ patrol vessel managed to locate the foreign boat about 11.30am.

“The skipper and his crew members, aged from 18 to 25, do not have any identification papers on them," she said.

She said it was the 12th encroachment incident involving Indonesian boats in Lumut waters.
