Up-and-coming Satumarin looks to the future

KUALA LUMPUR: Up-and-coming oil and gas company Satumarin was recently given the accolade of being included in the 7th SME 100 Fast Moving Companies Award 2015.

The award, given out to notable emerging entities, was presented by SME Magazine and Business Media International at the Grand Ballroom, Connexion@Nexus, in Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur.

Satumarin, a wholly-owned Bumiputra and ISO 9001:2008 certified company, beat out stiff competition which saw a pool of 5,000 pre-selected candidates in various categories.

Its Acting Managing Director, Captain Ahmad Imran Mohd Azmi, expressed his gratitude for the award.

“We feel very privileged that our hard work and effort has been recognised in the oil and gas sector.

“Our company has definitely grown so much in five years, and winning this award has definitely given us the boost to do better,” he said.

Imran said the company was proud at holding more than 70 per cent of market share in offshore marine pilotage services.

“Although challenged by the current market downturn in the oil and gas businesses, we are thankful that our business is able to persevere due to our diversification,” he said.

Satumarin undertakes surveys, inspections and audits of vessels and facilities worldwide. In addition to supplying manpower and pilotage services, the company is also among the few local providers of Dynamic Positioning (DP) related services in Malaysia, and also provides assistance in DP audits and trials.

It also provides tailor-made marine and offshore training programmes.

Meanwhile, Satumarin co-founder, Captain Mohd Zailani Abd Razak said the company plans to expand its business presence in the Southeast Asian region, particularly in Brunei, Indonesia and Myanmar.

It is currently teaming up with a local higher learning institution to develop Remote Operating Vehicles (ROV) for inspection purposes.

“Our goal is to expand our portfolio to a higher level, being even more specialised, and offering more sophisticated services,” he said.
