BESUT: A Form four student drowned at the Lata Tembakah Recreation Park here after he fell while climbing the waterfall.
Police said the 16-year-old boy, Ahmad Termizi Zabar from Kampung Perupok in Bachok had gone to the waterfall with 13 of his friends.
According to his friends, upon arriving at noon, they had attempted to climb the wall of the waterfall when Termizi slipped and fell in the water.
After he failed to surface, some of his friends jumped in to look for him.
The boys managed to find Termizi, but by that time, he was unconscious. A few of them attempted to resuscitate him while the others went to alert the park office.
District police chief Superintendent Khalid Che Lah confirmed the incident and said that Termizi’s body was sent to Besut Hospital for a post mortem.
He also said that the case had been classified as a drowning.
