KDU signs MoU with Silpakorn University

GEORGE TOWN: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between KDU University College Penang (KDU PG) and the Faculty of Education, Silpakorn University, Thailand (SU) today.

The agreement, aimed for a strategic collaboration to provide short term English language courses for SU undergraduates, will include short term placement at KDU PG whilst students are learning the language.

The "English Summer Camp" programme will see SU students' visiting places of interest in Penang over a specified period ranging from one day to two weeks.

KDU PG principal Dr Chong Beng Keok said it will host SU students and provide transport. Each batch will be of at least 15 students until the contract expires in year 2020.

"This agreement shall commence on Nov 3 and shall be in effect for a period of five years ending Nov 2, 2020.

"We believe through this programme, it will help boost the language proficiency among SU students," she said today.

SU Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education Dr Bamroong Chamnanrua said Penang was chosen as it was closer to Thailand.

"It only takes one hour and half from Thailand to Penang which is why we selected KDU PG.

"Our students will also get the chance to experience the heritage and historical sites in Penang," he said.

The MoU may be renewed with mutual consent of both universities at the expiry of the term.
