Newspapers must evolve, place emphasis on content, says MNPA

KUALA LUMPUR: In order for the newspaper industry to continue and move forward, industry players need to evolve and place importance on content, said the Malaysian Newspaper Publishers Association (MNPA).

Its chairman Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah who is also the New Straits Times Press Bhd chief executive officer, said the industry needs to think outside of the box in order to continue as one of the main medium.

"People need to think outside the box to compete, that is why you see a lot of the big players moving according to technological advancements.

"Whatever it is, content must always be the key becuase consumers are willing to pay the price if the content they are provided with is good," he told reporters after the MNPA Malaysian Media Landscape Outlook 2016: Print Revenue Opportunities seminar at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Resort, today.

He said industry players need to learn new ways of serving consumers, to deliver new packaging and new formats.

"We have to prepare for the future and do whatever needs to be done to evolve," he said.

Some 200 media and marketing and communication professionals congregated at the MNPA seminar which was presented by Navigator Business Academy David Ho.
