The Force Awakens in Mid Valley Megamall

KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of Star Wars fans yesterday thronged Mid Valley Megamall here to take a closer look at a replica of the Rebel Alliance's Incom T-70 X-Wing Fighter.

Berthed at the mall's Centre Court, the 80 per cent scale replica was brought here by Walt Disney especially for Star Wars fans in Malaysia to promote the epic space opera's seventh installment, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The new episode, starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley, will be screened in cinemas starting Dec 17.

The Walt Disney Company (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd executive Tan Ai Vee said the event is made for the public, who can also take their picture in the X-Wing.

She said they also provide a photographer to take pictures of fans posing in the fighter model. The photographs can be claimed for free at the event's booth there.

"We invite all Star Wars fans and members of the public to join us at Mid Valley Megamall's Centre Court from today (Wednesday) until this Nov 29.

"Visitors can experience a scaled replica of the X-Wing, and take pictures in it too.

"We are open from 10am to 10pm daily, and those who want to take picture in the X-Wing can get the free passes from our booth," she said.

Besides a chance to pose for pictures with the Rebel Alliance's workhorse, Walt Disney also opens a Star Wars Battlefront booth for all game lovers to try the new game which will only be released in mid-December.

Tan said they will also hold Battlefront challenge during the weekends, where players stand a chance to win a PlayStation 4 and the game itself.

"For more information about the challenge, please tune into Era FM, Hitz FM, My FM and Raaga FM.

"We look forward to see you at here. We also have the latest Star Wars products sold during the event."

She said the organiser expect to receive thousands of Star Wars fan throughout the event period. They estimated over 400 turn ups as of yesterday alone.

The New Straits Times went there last night, and saw over a hundred of Star Wars fans grabbing their chance to sit in the X-Wing replica's cockpit.

Joining the force yesterday were members of the 501st Legion Malaysia Outpost and Star Wars Fan Club Malaysia, who were clad in their respective Star Wars costumes, including Kylo Ren (a character to be revealed for the first time in the seventh episode), Storm Troopers, Luke Skywalker and even the 'fallen' Darth Vader.
