Zahid: Govt mulling legal action against Nurul Izzah for meeting Jacel

PUTRAJAYA: Police will submit its investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for possible legal action against Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar for meeting with self-styled ‘Sulu princess’ Jacel Kiram.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said her decision to meet and take photos with Jacel, the daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram III who spearheaded the Lahad Datu intrusion almost three years ago, was uncalled for.

“Politicians can debate and have different opinions on any issues but one must be sensitive when it comes to the issue of security and defence of the country.

“If any politician meets with the family members of those who masterminded the invasion of a state, it shows that the person agrees and supports the invasion.

“Nurul Izzah's action seemed as if she endorsed the Lahad Datu intruders ordered by the former self-proclaimed ‘Sulu Sultan',” he said.

Zahid was responding to the recent publication of pictures of Nurul Izzah together with Jacel in Manila.

Jacel’s father, Jamalul Kiram III, had ordered the Lahad Datu intrusion and sent 200 of his 'Royal Sulu Army' to invade Sabah in Feb 2013.

Earlier, Zahid met with Indonesia's Political, Justice and Peace Coordinator Luhut Binsar Panjaitan at the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office in Perdana Putra, here, today.

Among the matters discussed were the conviction and imprisonment of 4,896 Indonesians in Malaysia, transnational crime prevention agreement and Malaysia’s assistance to fight forest fires and haze in Indonesia.

Zahid said 81 from 4,896 Indonesian offenders had received the death sentence.

“Any foreign citizens must respect the decision made by the Malaysian court. Some offences they have committed include drug abuse, murder, possessing firearms and abduction.

“We also discussed the proactive measures to address the cross-border crimes.” he said.

He said the Indonesian government also thanked Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency for sending a Bombardier CL 415 aircraft and an AS 365 N3 Dauphin helicopter to participate in the fire-fighting operations in South Sumatra, Indonesia in October.
