Bursa Malaysia opens higher

KUALA LUMPUR: The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) opened higher today despite the decline on Wall Street overnight said a dealer.

At 9.17 am, the index was 13.48 points better at 1,684.38 after opening 7.78 points higher at 1,670.68.

Gainers led decliners 242 to 163, with 231 counters unchanged, 1,202 untraded and 11 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 372.76 million shares worth RM171.97 million.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index rose 65.46 points to 11,707.76, the FBMT100 Index increased 66.77 points to 11,378.12 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index jumped 101.8 points to 12,675.53.

The FBM 70 was down 13.5 points to 12,891.02 and the FBM Ace depreciated 8.13 points to 6,920.06.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index rose 12.7 points to 14,147.86, the Industrial Index gained 15.74 points for 3,302.98 and the Plantation Index edged up 4.33 points to 7,507.06.

Among actives, China Stationery inched up half-a-sen to 13.5 sen, JCY International and KNM Group was up 1.5 sen each to 89.5 sen and 52 sen, respectively, while Inix Technologies declined half-a-sen to 9.5 sen and RGB International edged down one sen to 17 sen.

Heavyweights, TNB increased 60 sen to RM14.02, Petronas Gas rose 42 sen to RM23.36, Axiata gained nine sen to RM6.22 and Sime Darby appreciated two sen to RM8.02. --Bernama
