'Green YB' to return from 'self-exile'

GEORGETOWN: Tanjung Bunga DAP assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu, who broke ranks with the party will return from "self-exile" on Saturday, his service centre said today.

A call to his service centre revealed that Teh's assistant, who declined to be identified, still had no idea of his whereabouts.

"We also cannot get him but he intends to be back for the state party convention starting tomorrow," she told the New Straits Times when contacted.

Aptly known as the "Green YB" for his staunch support of environmental issues, Teh has been on a break and unreachable via call and text messages by NST today.

It was reported that he will contest in the state DAP party's polls.

Teh came under fire for breaking ranks with DAP and quit as the state organising secretary after he was openly reprimanded following his support for an Umno motion on land reclamation at the state legislative assembly sitting last week.

His resignation from the post was announced by state DAP secretary Lim Hui Ling on Wednesday.

Hui Ying, who is the sister of DAP secretary-general and Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng said Teh had e-mailed a resignation letter to her and state DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

Teh apologised for the 'mistake' and said he was willing to accept any disciplinary measures over his action.

Barisan Nasional and Gerakan members have thrown their support behind the DAP lawmaker.

They lauded Teh's move to stand behind the people for their welfare and to vote with his conscience and not follow party orders 'blindly'.
