KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar today on weak buying interest, dealers said.
At 9am, the ringgit was quoted at 4.2250/2340 against the greenback from 4.2170/2260 on Thursday.
A dealer said the local unit was still dampened by the stronger than expected economic data in the US which raised expectations of a potential interest rate hike in the world’s largest economy in December.
The local unit was also lower against other major currencies.
It eased against the Singapore dollar to 2.9994/0069 from 2.9940/3018 on Thursday and depreciated against the yen to 3.4436/4513 from 3.4405/4490 previously.
The local currency fell against the British pound to 6.3806/3946 from yesterday’s 6.3605/3749 and decreased against the euro to 4.4793/4893 from 4.4747/4855.--BERNAMA
