KUALA LUMPUR: Umno is the most democratic party compared to other opposition parties.
Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said democracy within the party was not dead or buried, as alleged by former Gopeng Umno Wanita Chief Datuk Hamidah Osman.
Khairy said the party practices democracy as members from its divisions are allowed to cast their votes to determine the party leadership.
Speaking to reporters after launching the Bumiputra Funds Convention here today, he added: "Some parties, for example DAP, only allows a selected few to elect their top leadership. But this is not the case for Umno."
Hamidah was sacked from her position in the party, while her party membership was revoked as she had breached party discipline.
The decision to expel her from Umno was unanimously made during the recent Umno supreme council meeting chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
