SPAD to hold discussion on taxi services, ride sharing apps

KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will carry out a lab to improve taxi services and discuss the increasing use of services for drivers without Public Service Vehicle (PSV) through Internet-based apps, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department said the commission would engage relevant agencies and industry players in the lab to be held on Dec 3 (Thursday).

"Findings from an online survey on the perception for taxi service in Malaysia would also be shared during the lab. As for clamping down such (ride-sharing) apps is not under the jurisdiction of the commission, it will discuss with the relevant agencies that may have their own limitation in carrying it out," she said in response to a question by Datuk Mohd Zaim Abu Hasan (BN-Parit).

It was reported that about 80 per cent of over 20,000 respondents who participated in the online survey had used Uber and Grabcar services, of which 70.8 per cent noted that it was reliable.

The survey, which is available until Dec 3, can be accessed at http://bit.ly/1NPVmu7.
