Six students stand a chance to debate against Umno's best speakers

KUALA LUMPUR: Six university students out of 250 will stand to debate alongside Umno's best speakers at the Umno general assembly, should they have what it takes to be the best debaters during the National Undergraduate Leadership Conference.

The conference, which is also known as Pemanas 3.0, would be held for the third consecutive year by Umno Education Bureau, showcasing debaters from both private and public universities would hold dialogues on politics, education, economy and religion.

The four-day conference would be held on Thursday in conjunction with the upcoming Umno general assembly.

Bureau chairman Tan Sri Prof Dr Ibrahim Shah Abu Shah said Pemanas 3.0 followed the style and concept of a Parliament sitting and the medium would be in Malay.

Its chairman Senator Tan Sri Prof Dr Ibrahim Shah Abu Shah said the six best debaters would be chosen to present their motion during the general assembly from Dec 8 to 12.

“Most of the students involved in this conference are student leaders at their respective universities.

“The style or concept of Pemanas 3.0 will be similar to that of Parliament. Malay will be the language of communication throughout the conference" he told a Press conference yesterday.

Themed “Varsity Students Architects of Tomorrow”, Ibrahim said Malaysia's future graduates are the “architects” of society responsible for determining the country’s direction.

Ibrahim said there would also be sessions for information sharing between the debaters and Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Keruak, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and 1Malaysia Development Bhd president and group executive director Arul Kanda Kandasamy among others..

Pemanas 3.0 would be officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Zahid Hamidi on Sunday morning and closed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak later in the day.
