Five people held for probe on beating of two youths

KUCHING: Police have arrested five people, including a mother and her daughter, who allegedly involved in beating two youths in a shopping mall near Jalan Tun Jugah here on Sunday.

Kuching district police chief Assistant Commissioner Roslan Bek Ahmad said three suspects were picked up at Rejang Park in Sibu about 9pm yesterday while two nabbed at Jalan Simpang Tiga here about 11pm on the same day.

“The first three suspects are from Sibu and they are all related, a stepfather, 45, a mother, 50 and a daughter, 18. Meanwhile, two other suspects, aged between 43 and 46,” he said when contacted.

It was learnt that the victims, both 19 were colleagues of the 18-year-old suspect and they had bullied the girl by pushing her.

The girl later complained to her stepfather.

The incident had led to the assault which was recorded by the public and went viral in the social media.

Two videos, about a one-minute each, show two young men being slapped, kicked and punched by a group of men.

It can also be heard that the victims were told to kneel down in front of a girl, believed to be the suspect and apologise to the girl.
