KUALA LUMPUR: Legendary actress Mariam Ismail, or better known as Mariani, passed away while in a coma today. She was 82.
Her youngest daughter, actress and director Melissa Saila, 43, said that the actress succumbed to colon cancer and died at one of her daughter's house in Sentul at 7.32pm.
"Mummy was diagnosed with the cancer a year ago and she had been receiving treatments at the Selayang Hospital just two weeks ago.
"At 6am today, she went into a coma and just before she passed away, we saw a teardrop rolling down her left eye," said a teary eyed Melissa.
She added that a week ago, Mariani who was staying at Melissa's house had requested that she be sent to the house in Sentul to be cared by another daughter Shasha Abdul Hamid.
"Mummy will be buried at Tanah Perkuburan Islam, Jalan Ampang before Zuhur prayers tomorrow," she added.
Mariani leaves behind 13 children, of which Melissa is the youngest.
