Pahang ready to relaunch 'Ops Gading' against illegal farmers at Cameron Highlands

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Another massive joint operation to curb illegal farming and land encroachment will be held here if those involved continue to violate the law.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said after one year of the "Ops Gading" joint operation led by the National Security Council (NSC), the farmers should have already learnt their lesson.

"If they do not toe the line, then another Ops Gading will come here," he said after opening the conference for state forestry directors here last night.

Ops Gading was launched in December last year to help clear illegal farms and nab illegal foreign workers here.

It was held following the mud floods here and the massive operation involved the police, Immigration Department, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the police’s General Operations Force and Armed Forces.

Adnan however, said that the state government would find an amicable solution to help about 1,000 small farmers who were also affected by the joint operation.

"One year is already too long for them and the state government will ensure that the genuine ones could continue till the land to help support their families," he said adding that the land matter was under the jurisdiction of the state government.
