Johor Pas may contest for state seats in next election

JOHOR BARU: Johor Pas does not discount the possibility of contesting in all state and parliamentary seats in the next general election if PKR declines its offer for a collaboration between the two parties.

Johor Pas commissioner Datuk Dr Mahfodz Mohamed said while the party's main target is to maintain the 21 state seats and nine parliamentary seats it contested in the last general election, it is also identifying potential seats that were previously contested by DAP.

"We are optimistic with our chances in the state seats like Tangkak, Yong Peng, Johor Jaya, Stulang and Pengkalan Rinting and in parliamentary seats like Labis, Bakri and Tanjung Piai.

"We may also contest in seats that were previously contested by PKR like Bukit Naning, Semerah, Kahang and Tanjung Puteri (state seats) as well as Segamat, Sekijang, Ledang, Batu Pahat, Muar and Johor Baru (parliamentary seats) if PKR continue to be silent on our offer to collaborate," said Mahfodz.

He said Pas contacted PKR about a month ago regarding the possibility of collaborating in the next general election in order to avoid three-cornered contests, but so far, they have yet to response.
