KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno’s political bureau yesterday reiterated their support for party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Its chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, said the wing’s support for Najib remained strong in the face of adversities faced by the top leadership and stressed that Wanita Umno would remain loyal.
“Our support for Najib remains strong. Wanita Umno, as the backbone of the party, will defend Umno’s strength, which begins with the president,” she said after chairing the wing’s political bureau meeting at the Umno headquarters here yesterday.
Shahrizat also announced the setting up of a fund for veteran Wanita leaders.
The “Tabung Pejuang Nadi Rakyat”, to be launched by Najib on Wednesday, would raise funds for elderly and sick former Wanita Umno leaders.
“We need to consider the situation and conditions of our veteran Wanita Umno leaders, who have fought hard, shedding blood, sweat and tears for the party.
“With this fund, we can provide aid to these fighters, especially those who are ageing and ill.”
She said the political bureau had finalised programmes for the 69th Umno general assembly this week, which include a Lawmakers’ Caucus Exhibition and a health carnival.
