Msian army captain confirmed dead in Missouri flood

KUALA LUMPUR: The army today confirmed that Captain Hasman Hussin, who was reported missing in Missouri, United States since Saturday, has died.

The army, in a brief statement today, said the body of Hasman, who was attached to the Royal Army Engineers Regiment, was found at 11am local time yesterday.

Hasman, 33, was undergoing an engineer captains career course in Fort Leonard, Missouri which began on Oct 1 and was due to end on April 15.

He was with four other course mates on an excursion when they were trapped in a vehicle which was swept away by flood waters, as was reported to Malaysia's deputy chief of mission in Malawakil, Washington DC Saiful Annuar on Sunday.

All five are reported to have perished.

According to the statement, Fort Leonard Wood College public relations officer Charlie Rodges had confirmed the findings and that Hasman's remains are at the Fort Leonard Wood Hospital.

Hasman is survived by his wife Siti Hazwani Ahmad, 29, and a three-year old son Mohd Aqil Tahfiz.

Hasman's family has been informed of his demise.

The army will also be making arrangements for Hasman's next-of-kin to travel to the United States to assist in identification and repatriation of his remains.
