Pet cat 'purr'-fectly foils attempted burglary in Batu Tiga

SUBANG JAYA: A man has his beloved pet cat to thank for 'sounding the alarm' after a would-be burglar attempted to break into his apartment in Batu Tiga, early today.

The 39-year-old clerk was fast asleep when his cat woke him up with its frantic meowing at 2.50am.

Puzzled, the man decided to check his apartment, which is located on the eighth floor.

He was stunned to find a man at his balcony.

The intruder, stunned at seeing the apartment's occupant awake, clambered down in an attempt to flee.

However, the man with the help of a neighbour gave chase. They eventually found the intruder hiding in a waste disposal room on the sixth floor of the building.

Together, they overpowered the intruder and called the police, who then arrived to arrest the suspect.

Subang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Ramli said investigation revealed that the 21-year-old suspect was actually a security guard at the apartment.

He had only started work there about a week ago.

The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass which carries a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to RM3,000, or both upon conviction.
