April date for Najib, Rosmah's suit against Taiping MP

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court today fixed April 15 for final case management in the defamation suit by Prime Minster Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor against Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming.

Their counsel Nurshafiqa Balqish Jeffri said the court had also ordered for all witness statements to be submitted before the same date.

"The court has fixed May for trial and all the necessary documents in the suit is to be finalised and filed before April 15," she said after the proceeding in the chambers of High Court judge Siti Khadijah Syed Hassan Badjenid.

Last year, Najib and Rosmah filed an application to have their suit decided through a point of law without a full trial.

The application is set to be heard on March 14.

The court had also fixed the same date to hear Nga's application to strike out the suit against him.

In an earlier proceeding , the court set May 16 to 19 for trial which would continue from May 23 to 26 if the suit is to be tried in court.

On June 11, 2015, Najib and Rosmah filed the suit against Nga alleging that the defendant had uploaded a photograph of the couple with some ministers and Wisma Putra senior officials in his Facebook account on March 29.

They claimed that the photo which was accompanied by allegedly disparaging remarks could be easily accessed by internet users worldwide and they had been slandered due to the posting.

Najib said that Nga's remarks meant, among others, that he had abused his power and mandate as the prime minister for personal interest and that of his wife by allowing Rosmah to interfere in the government's business and affairs.

Counsel Dennis Goh appeared for Nga.
