Three cops plead not guilty to bribery charge

JOHOR BARU: Three policeman were charged at the Sessions Court here with soliciting and accepting bribes from a Vietnamese foreign worker to not take action over the latter's offence of not possessing a work permit.

V. Venisan Raj, 31, Mohd Dzulfadzli Mohammad Noor, 29, and Shafiul Kamal Salleh pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read by a court translator in front of Judge Mohamad Haldar Abd Aziz.

They had committed the offence in front of a shoplot in Taman Damai, Pontian between 2pm and 2.30pm on April 1, 2015.

Venisan Raj also faced a separate charge of accepting a RM550 bribe in Parit Semerah, Pontian from the foreign worker, Nguyen Van Tuan at 2.47pm on April 17, 2015.

Besides that, Venisan Raj and Mohd Dzulfadzli were charged with accepting RM1,000 from the foreign worker in Taman Jasa Indah, Pontian between 5pm and 5.30pm on March 19, 2015.

Mohd Dzulfadzli faced a separate charge accepting of RM1,000 bribe from the same person in Taman Jasa Indah between 5pm and 5.30pm on March 19 last year.

All the accused were charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission Act 2009 read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code which could be sentenced under Section 24 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the accused could be jailed up to 20 years and fined not less than five times the amount of bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Ridzuan Abd Malik prosecuted.

All three accused were released on RM5,000 bail and the case management was set for Feb 15.
