BN to bring plight of state's fishermen to Penang govt

GEORGE TOWN: The Barisan Nasional backbenchers will relay the plight of Penang’s fishermen to the state government before the RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan is approved.

State opposition leader Datuk Jahara Hamid said BN lawmakers will do their level best to ensure reclamation works in the waters off the island would not take a toll on the fishermen's livelihood.

“We will get feedback from all stakeholders, including the fishermen before we make our stand on the master plan," she said.

Jahara said the 10 backbenchers would lobby for a fisheries impact assessment to be undertaken for the sake of marine habitat preservation.

She was speaking to reporters today after attending a closed-door briefing session with the state officials.
