Mentally-ill man detained outside Palace of Justice, two knives found in possession

PUTRAJAYA: A 27-year-old man, believed to be mentally-unsound, was picked up near the Palace of Justice here today, with two knives found in his possession.

Members of the public had alerted police of the presence of the man, who was garbed in a T-shirt and sarong.

Putrajaya police chief ACP Rosly Hassan said police questioned the man, and found a butcher's knife and a small knife in his bag.

Rosly said the man said he wanted to enter the Palace of Justice to meet a judge.

The man told police that he wanted the judge to help him "change his name."

"Further questioning showed that the man was from Malacca. We contacted his family and they confirmed that he was a psychiatric patient at the Malacca Hospital.

"The case is being investigated under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possession of a dangerous weapon," he said.
