Pas info chief retracts "baseless" claims against Guan Eng on Penang tunnel project, to pay RM10k

GEORGE TOWN: Pas information chief Nasruddin Hassan Tantawi told the Penang High Court here today that he regretted making a "baseless" statement on his Facebook account against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Nasrudin told High Court judicial commissioner Lim Chong Fong that he regretted posting the status update on Aug 6, 2014.

"After looking at the documents presented in court, I regret that my article has caused a misunderstanding towards the Right Honourable Chief Minister of Penang.

"As both parties have decided to not prolong this case, I will retract my article made on Aug 6, 2014 which was baseless," Nasruddin said.

Chong Fong then ordered the case to be dismissed and ordered Nasaruddin to pay RM10,000 in costs.

Nasruddin was represented by Wan Rohimi Wan Daud while Lim was represented by Datuk Murali Navaratnam.

Lim took Nasruddin to court for making a slanderous statement over the proposed Penang undersea tunnel project via a Facebook posting titled 'Apa Beza Kidex dan Penang Tunnel'.

Nasruddin was claimed to have said the awarding of the project was made through direct negotiation and not open tender, as publicised.
