ALOR STAR: There is “nothing personal” in the declaration of loss of confidence in the leadership of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
Padang Terap Umno division chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the consensus was reached by the state leaders in the interest of Kedahans as a whole.
“This is the general consensus of all party leaders in the state.
“We are placing our trust in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to make an immediate decision to change the party leadership," he said in a phone interview from London today.
Earlier today, state Umno leaders, state representatives as well as members of Parliament had collectively announced that they had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership of as both the Menteri Besar and state Umno chief.
Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah had told a press conference that 13 out of 15 of the state’s division leaders and wing leaders were seeking the prime minister’s intervention for a change in leadership in the state.
Mukhriz, he had claimed, had among others failed to unite the party leadership and machinery at al levels in the state, and had not administer the state properly since taking over in 2013.
At press time, no comments were available from Mukhriz.
