Be wary and vigilant, but don't fear the 'thugs'

I THINK the world media should stop referring to the IS thugs as “Islamic State” as it denigrates the religion and makes this motley group of deluded people into some sort of defenders of Islam. They are not.

They are just a group of thugs who live in their own fantasy world with their own rules. Maybe, we should all call them “IS thugs”.

Every day, I read with trepidation the number of Malaysians who
are involved in terrorist activities abroad or those who get arrested upon returning or those home-based misguided souls who are planning terrorist activities.

While we try to stop them from creating mayhem in our country, those who choose to go abroad and partake in terrorist activities should not be allowed to return to Malaysia.

Just revoke their passports and make them persona non grata in this country.

We have revoked the passports of Malaysians in other cases, so why not do the same here? These thugs seek to destroy our way of life, so they have no place in our society.

Why do we bother with wasting money and resources arresting them and then feeding them in prison with taxpayers’ money?

Let them just stay in Syria, Iraq, Yemen or wherever and let them reflect on their folly.

Since they like the life so much there, just stay there. Why bother returning? To file their tax returns?

Better still, if they insist on coming back, just catch them, put them on a Royal Malaysian Air Force plane and airdrop them back to where they were returning from. That should teach the rest.

These people are taken in with the idea of playing cowboys with guns without any control whatsoever and pretend that they are warlords with their female slaves tagging along.

Boys with guns, when they realise it is not as attractive as it has been made out to be, come scurrying back.

They enjoy the feel of power without accountability, although history has shown that it has achieved nothing, except destruction and mass loss of life.

Just shoo them away. We don’t want them back here, in Malaysia.

By allowing them to return, we run the risk of them contaminating other weak minds, even in prison.

Most importantly, we should not fear them. We should be wary and be extra vigilant.

As United States President Barack Obama, in his State of the Union address on Jan 12, said: “... fighters on the back of pickup trucks and twisted souls plotting in apartments or garages… Each time, there have been those who told us to fear the future; who claimed we could slam the brakes on change; each time, we overcame those fears.”
