Improved Tabika Kemas syllabus to be ready by 2017

SELAYANG: An improved kindergarten syllabus for Tabika Kemas (Community Development Department) will be implemented by next year.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the updated syllabus would incorporate Islamic education and instilling patriotism among the children.

“This is part of our education transformation programme which is in its second phase. Kemas is currently doing a study on the syllabus and will work with other agencies such as Education Ministry and Islamic Development Department.

“It will also include activities that can help improve the children’s self confidence. The syllabus was last updated in 2009.

“We are also looking at other areas that we can improve like infrastructures and equipment that will assist the learning process. An example is the use of interactive white board which was installed at some 100 Tabika Kemas nationwide. It will be good if it can be used at all our 11,172 kindergartens but this will take some time as it will incur more cost.

“We hope that Tabika (Taman Bimbingan Kanak-kanak or kindergarten) Kemas will soon be the number one choice among parents,” he said after launching Instagram’s #imkemas at Tabika Kemas in Kampung Batu Melayu 16, Rawang earlier.

The hashtag allows members of the public to get updates on programmes organised by Kemas.

Tabika Kemas provides avenue for pre-schoolers to learn through play.

Teacher Badrina Badrul Sham, 30, said the first three months are filled with activities and games that will help with their fine motor skills.

“The children are also taught basic skills like organising, hygienic and good toilet habits. We have various corners in our class that allow them to freely express their creativity in crafts and sometimes role-playing which is important for children’s development,” she said.
