Kedah Umno leaders attend closed-door session with Najib over MB crisis

KUALA LUMPUR: The majority of Kedah Umno leaders have arrived at Putra World Trade Centre here to attend a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to discuss the unfolding menteri besar crisis in the northern state.

It is understood that the meeting, held in one of the halls here, began at 4.45pm following the arrival of Najib, who is also Umno president.

Several Kedah Umno bigwigs, including Padang Terap member of parliament Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid,

deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, and Jerai MP Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, arrived at 4.30pm.

The meeting is a closed-door event.

Hundreds of media personnel could be seen converging at PWTC's main foyer.

The meeting is being held to discuss the position of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir as Kedah Menteri Besar after the majority of the state Umno leadership had announced that they had lost confidence in his leadership as state Umno chairman as well as the menteri besar.

It is understood that Mukhriz will touch down at Subang International Airport at 5pm from Kedah, but it is unclear whether he will attend the meeting.
