Shophouse collapses, four workers escape death

PORT KLANG: Four foreign workers escaped death when part of a shophouse they were working on collapsed in Telok Gong, here, earlier.

In the 3pm incident, two out of the four foreign men involved were rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for treatment.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul said a distress call was made at 3.07pm.

A team of firemen from the Port Klang station rushed to the scene.

"Early investigations revealed that the four were carrying out concrete flooring works on the first floor at the back portion of the two-storey shoplot when the structure of the second floor suddenly collapsed.

"All of them were in their 30s and one was brought to the hospital as he suffered a broken arm while another sustained light injuries," he said.

Sani added the other two men were not hurt in the incident.

He added that the search and rescue operation for the men took close to half-an-hour.

"Only one victim was trapped under rubble but he was quickly saved as he was conscious and able to scream for help and tell the team where he was," said Sani, adding that the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
