Sabah-Sarawak border control operation hours extended

KOTA KINABALU: The operating hours at the Sindumin (Sabah)-Merapok (Sarawak) immigration border control post will be extended from 6am to 12am, effective Feb 1.

Currently, the border control post operates from 6am to 10pm.

Sabah immigration director Musa Sulaiman said he hoped the two additional operating hours would provide better service to Malaysians and visitors.

“We hope this will help to boost social and economic activities for both Sabah and Sarawak,” he told a press conference, here.

It is also hoped that the extension will see more movement of people by land between the two states as well as Brunei.

In another update, Musa said the department recorded an increase in passport applications, with 125,838 passports issued last year compared to 120,063 passports in 2014.
