LUNAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has arrived at the SJK (T) Jalan Paya Besar to officiate the opening of the primary school.
Najib and newly-minted Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah were given a rousing welcome upon arrival at the school.
Also present were Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
This is Najib's first visit to Kedah after the recent Menteri Besar crisis.
Bashah was sworn in as the new MB yesterday, after Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir resigned from the position two days ago following a leadership crisis in the state.
SJK (T) Jalan Paya Besar, the 524th Tamil school in the country, was a dream come true for the Indian community in Jalan Paya Besar here.
It was made possible thanks to Najib who had set aside a special allocation for the construction of the school and gave the green light for its construction.
Najib will later join the Muslim community for Friday prayers at the Permatang Gedong mosque in Sungai Petani.
He is scheduled to officiate the Sungai Petani Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in the afternoon.
