GEMAS: A total of 320 people from several villages here and Gemencheh were evacuated to relief centres following heavy rain last night.
Gemas Fire and Rescue Department chief Syed Ammar Syed Abbas said heavy rain for several hours, which started yesterday evening, resulted in flash floods in several low lying areas.
"We received flood reports around midnight and deployed our team to the affected areas to help the flood victims," he said.
He said four relief centres were opened to house the flood victims.
They are Balai Raya Kampung Parit Buloh, Dewan Orang Ramai Kompleks Sukan Taman Semarak, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Datuk Mohd Taha and Surau Kampung Keru Hilir.
Syed Ammar said the relief centres were handled by the Welfare Department and would be open until floodwaters in the areas recede.
"As of 7am today, some of the villagers have returned home to clean their houses," he said.
