Year of the Monkey to bring good fortune for a better tomorrow: Liow

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai hopes the Chinese New Year of the Monkey will swing in a better tomorrow to all Malaysians, and be spiced with luck, joy and good fortune.

In ensuring a better future for the nation, the government was working hard to better the quality of life of Malaysians, via initiatives that would encourage economic growth, he said in a statement here today.

"Improving the lives of Malaysians is a personal goal of mine and one that is shared by the government, as well. At the ministry level, I have championed the improved delivery of service for the benefit of the rakyat, particularly via the agencies under the ministry's purview," said Liow, who is also transport minister.

As Malaysians look towards working together for the country's growth, he also reminded the people not to forget to guard the nation against the dangers of radicalism.

"The ISIS (Daesh) threat continues to be prevalent...together, we must be vigilant against those who threaten the peace of our nation and the world," he urged.

Meanwhile, Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong said despite the challenges faced by the country, Malaysians continued to show courage, resilience and resourcefulness.

"In the spirit of the Year of the Monkey, it is hoped the nation will find the necessary inspiration, belief and character to lead a better year ahead.

"We must remain upbeat and committed to seek the fulfilment of the country's vision and agenda for development," he said in a statement here today.

He added that experiences and lessons that Malaysians learnt over the past 12 months could be invaluable for the country's future growth.

"We are poised to grow much stronger, wiser and resilient, beating all forms of negativity and division... the strength and zest accompanying the arrival of the Year of the Monkey will sail us through storms and squalls."--BERNAMA
