More people-centric programmes in the pipeline, says Najib

LABUAN: More people-centric programmes will be announced despite the challenging times, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Speaking at the launch of the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) here today, Najib said no other facility in the world provides a variety of government-related services under one roof like the UTC does.

"For example, a Malaysia can undergo dental scaling at a clinic in the UTC for RM1, whereas in private clinics, the procedure can cost RM200," said Najib.

He said the government will maintain Labuan's duty-free status, but outlets selling products such as cigarettes, liquor and cars will be closely monitored to plug tax leakages.

Najib advised the people of Labuan to be resilient and prudent in facing the challenging times due to the global drop in oil prices.

However, the prime minister assured that the welfare of the people of Labuan would not be neglected.
