6.4 quake hits Solomon Islands

KUALA LUMPUR: A magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit the Solomon Islands at 12.19am today, according the to Malaysian Meterological Department.

In a statement here, the department said the epicentre was 124km southwest of Arawa, Papua New Guinea and 4,193km southeast of Semporna, Sabah.

However, no tsunami threat was reported, the statement added. -- Bernama
