PUTRAJAYA: Newly-elected Kedah Umno Liaison Committee deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid has vowed to further strengthen the party in the state and increase the confidence of the people in the government.
Mahdzir who said he was surprised to learn of his appointment, said it is a responsibility entrusted to him by Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"I will stand by the Kedah Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah) to help strengthen the party and also conduct comprehensive programmes to restore the poeple’s confidence in the state towards the government," he told reporters during his working visit to the Putrajaya Education Department here.
His appointment was announced by Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in a statement this morning.
Ahmad Bashah was appointed the new chairman of the committee, replacing Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
