Chong Wei mulling over Podium programme

KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei has yet to decide on signing for the Podium programme managed by the National Sports Institute (ISN).

Chong Wei said he has not studied the contract yet and hoped the ISN understood his responsibilities and commitments with sponsors.

“I am still discussing the programme. For me, the contract is different as I am different from other players. I have read the contract.

“I think it is very tough for me. I’m not sure I can sign the contract, because I have sponsorship commitments. I hope ISN understand my obligations to sponsors,” he told reporters at the Juara Stadium, Bukit Kiara here today.

Also listed to participate in the Podium programme were Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong, Chan Peng Soon, Goh Liu Ying, Vivian Hoo and Woon Khe Wei.

The podium programme is an initiative of the Youth and Sports Ministry to produce podium winners consistently and continuously at major championships such as the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Asian Games, Para Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. -- BERNAMA
