Look on the bright side

IN this age of materialism, sophistication and transformation, when everyone is worried about being left behind, many forget to take a break or to take one thing at a time; they don’t see why they should stop when the clock is ticking and time is money.

While some are busy pursuing careers and dreams, others are complaining, quarrelling and questioning other’s actions, opinions and decisions, turning trivial matters into big issues. It may be justified if we keep ourselves busy by doing something beneficial to help us
forget problems rather than be gossiping, slandering and finding faults with others.

The quote “time is gold” makes us try to beat the clock for an appointment or meeting. However, no matter how much we try to make every second count, time will remain our enemy unless we are able to realise that even during the most challenging times, there will be these invisible boxes of gifts of life, waiting to be found and unwrapped. These may be small and simple, but they help us realise that life is fair, kind and beautiful, and that there is always something to be thankful for.

Trials and tribulations are part and parcel of life. Without them, we may not have a chance to admire the beauty of rainbows. When we have financial problems, our ability to stay strong, patient and happy are the results of being optimistic, while believing that miseries are only temporary.

When everything goes wrong on the worst day of our lives, the privilege to enjoy better days will turn tears into triumphs.

Instead of thinking about suffering, we need to focus on the silver lining. Those who feel it is easier said than done should stop doubting the power of positive thinking unless they can prove it wrong.

As Oprah Winfrey said: “Turn your wounds into wisdom.” To focus on the pain will not make the wounds less painful but to switch our attention to the precious lessons we gain from the tortuous experiences may help us think of the bright side.

There will be days when things happen beyond our expectations. This is when the surprises make us choose between facing the ordeals while appreciating the gifts they come with and getting carried away with emotions while missing the chance to cherish the blessings in disguise.

We should stop living pathetic, unworthy and frazzled lives despite having too much on our plates. Let us focus on the side dishes and relish these little gifts of life.
