Sultan of Johor drives KTMB train from JB to Segamat

JOHOR BARU: It was Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's ninth time at the controls of a train which embarked from JB Sentral here at 9.45am today to Segamat.

The ruler of the state, who has not driven a train for nearly two years, specially chartered a train for the purpose of examining the safety and cleanliness of rail travel.

Sultan Ibrahim was escorted by two locomotive drivers of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB), Mohd Kamal Asmawi and Supawi Ismail.

Johor Mufti Datuk Mohd Tahrir Samsudin recited prayers for a safe journey.

The train is expected to reach Segamat at 2.30pm, where it will proceed to Kuala Lumpur albeit with another driver.

Sultan Ibrahim procured a Class 26 licence to drive a train on June 28, 2010.
