69 foreign GROs nabbed in Kepong entertainment outlets swoop

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 86 people, including 69 guest relations officers (GROs) were arrested in an anti-vice operation, code-named Ops Cantas and Ops Noda, at various entertainment outlets in Kepong and Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

The GROs are from various nationalities including Vietnamese (28); Thai (29); Indonesian (3); Filipino (5); and Laos (4).

Besides the GROs, police also arrested 13 people including a female Chinese national who served as the outlets' operators and caretakers.

Police also arrested two Nigerian men who had no travel documents, as well as a Vietnamese man and a Filipino man whose passports had expired.

Federal Special Task Force for Anti-vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (Stagg) principal assistant director SAC Khairi Ahrasa said the three hour raid began at 11.30pm.

The entertainment outlets raided included two at Jalan 54, Desa Jaya, in Kepong; four outlets at Jalan KIP 2, Taman Perindustrian KIP, Kepong; and three at Desa Aman Puri, KL.

"Initial investigation revealed that three of those arrested are on the wanted list. Two of them have a breach of trust case against them from back in 2008, while another person has been on the wanted list since 2007 for a fraud case," said Khairi Ahrasa.

Police confiscated RM10,362 in cash, transaction receipts, and various entertainment equipment.

Khairi Ahrasa said the entertainment outlets provided GROs for companionships including sexual activities. They also hired workers without valid permits.

All the detainees are being investigated under Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, Section 55(B) of the Immigration Act 1963, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1963.
