Evacuees return home as floods recede in Sarawak

KUCHING: An increasing number of flood evacuees have returned to their homes in the Kuching, Serian and Samarahan divisions, leaving 4,867 people from 1,305 families at 27 relief centres as of 4pm.

Sarawak Department of Civil Defence public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said more relief centres were expected to be close as more evacuees left for their homes.

The number of evacuees at relief centres this evening was a significant drop from the 6,203 people from 1,622 families who were at 36 relief centres this afternoon.

Siti Huzaimah said that of the 57 relief centres opened on Saturday at the height of the floods 30 have been closed so far.
